OpenAI has unveiled new GPT-5 modes for ChatGPT, offering users the ability to switch between Auto, Fast, and Thinking modes. This update aims to balance speed, depth, and contextual understanding, catering to diverse user needs. The Thinking mode, with a 196,000-token context limit, positions ChatGPT as a formidable competitor in the AI space.

CEO Sam Altman highlighted future plans for AI personality customization, signaling OpenAI's commitment to user-centric innovation. Selective bonuses were awarded to staff ahead of the GPT-5 launch, underscoring the company's focus on retaining top talent in a competitive market.

Paid subscribers now default to the 4o model, with options to explore o3, 4.1, and the GPT-5 Thinking mini model. A weekly cap of 3,000 messages applies to the full Thinking mode, after which users can switch to the mini version. GPU cost constraints keep GPT-4.5 exclusive to Pro users, reflecting the ongoing computational challenges in AI development.
